Rep fastpitch is a step up from house league. If your player loves the game and wants more of it (more practice, tougher competition and a team that travels), rep might be the right next step. Here’s what to expect.

What Is Rep Fastpitch?

Rep (“representative”) teams are chosen through tryouts and play other rep teams in league games and tournaments. SEO brings together players from across Southeastern Ontario, so teammates often come from different towns and house leagues.

Who Is It For?

Players who are ready to work on their game and commit to a team for the season. Skill matters, but coaches look just as hard at effort, attitude and coachability. Use the Division Finder to see which age group your player belongs to.

Time Commitment

  • The season runs from May to August, with tryouts in the fall.
  • Expect two practices a week plus league games. (To Confirm)
  • Most teams play three to five weekend tournaments a season. (To Confirm)

Travel

League games are spread across the region, and tournaments can be a few hours away. Families often carpool, and bigger tournaments sometimes mean an overnight stay. (To Confirm: typical distances.)

Cost

The season fee covers uniforms, league fees and insurance. See Register for this season’s fees. Families should also plan for:

  • A glove, cleats, a helmet and, eventually, a bat
  • Gas and the occasional hotel for tournaments
  • Team fundraising

Help With Costs

Cost shouldn’t stop a player from trying out. Canadian Tire Jumpstart and KidSport Ontario both offer grants toward fees, and you can always talk to us privately.

House League or Rep?

House League Rep
Who plays Everyone who registers Players chosen at tryouts
Practices Usually once a week Usually twice a week (To Confirm)
Games Close to home Across the region, plus tournaments
Cost Lower Higher (see Register)
Commitment Flexible A full season with the same team

Many players do both: house league for fun with friends, and rep for a bigger challenge.

What Tryouts Are Like

Tryouts are friendly and low-pressure. After a warm-up, players rotate through stations for throwing and catching, fielding, hitting and baserunning while coaches take notes. Bring your glove, cleats and a helmet, and come ready to have fun. Feeling nervous is completely normal.

Next Steps

  1. Find your player’s division with the Division Finder.
  2. Check the tryout schedule.
  3. Ask us anything. There are no silly questions.
